I always create a chart in my classroom about what good readers do. I can teach explicitly to each point and use it to set individual learning goals. However I have to confess I have never created such a chart about good mathematicians. What would I teach to encourage students to develop their maths skills? Some things come to mind: mistakes are our friends that’s how we learn. Perseverance is needed to solve problems. What would your good mathematicians chart look like? In classroom s we discussed the question what do good mathematicians do and created charts with students. We have added an example of a good mathematicians chart to the free resources. You may find this helpful or use it to start the discussion in your classroom.
