The value of routines

DSCN2074I have been lucky enough to spent several days in the last two weeks in classrooms. I was reminded of the value of routines and how they make the teacher’s life as well as the students’ lives so much easier. When we all talk the same talk about what a good listener looks like, for instance, then settling a class ready to work is easy. It is about having expectations and everyone being aware of what they are. I was lucky enough to watch a class starting Words their Way word work for the week. Everyone knew how to cut, label and pack away their word sorts. Everyone just got on with getting ready. Teaching time was well spent introducing these simple routines so that now quality time can be spent on the learning.

  1. Fantastic! I love the fact that the focus wasn’t on the cutting out but on the sort according to the sound pattern. I love WTW.
