They say travel broadens the mind and I am sure that is true. I have just returned from a LEAP study tour of Hong Kong and England. The tour focused on leadership in schools. The fourteen tour members were privileged to visit a number of schools as well as meet many interesting speakers and researchers in the field of educational leadership. Visiting schools was fascinating and a reminder that schools may look different, school curriculum may vary but teaching and learning are surprisingly similar. In each school setting we met teachers and school leaders focusing on meeting student learning needs and our conversations with them centred on our common goals- improved learning outcomes for all students. For me the main advantage of the school visits was the chance to reflect on best practice. We have a lot to be proud of in education in Australia but we live in a changing world and we all need to keep our eyes on school improvement.
